James Peacock is the President of Peacock Research, Incorporated. The company was founded in
early 1996, and it provides a full range of management and technical consulting to purchasers and
managers of survey and media research. Mr. Peacock serves as Consultant to the Media Rating
Council among other clients.
Prior to founding his own firm, Mr. Peacock was The Arbitron Company’s Vice President of Research,
where he led the departments that were responsible for all methodology research at Arbitron, including
mail and telephone survey methods, demographic and statistical research, and the development of
survey and panel methods for new measurement technologies. In addition, he and his staff were
responsible for day-to-day responses to customer inquiries on methodological issues, and for relations
with industry research organizations.
Mr. Peacock was with Arbitron for over fourteen years, all in the methodological research program; he
was Director of Research from November 1987 to January of 1995, when he was promoted to Vice
President.
Prior to Arbitron, Mr. Peacock was employed for seven years by the Susquehanna Broadcasting
Company, a group owner of numerous radio stations. As their Assistant Director of Research, he
provided ratings analysis and developed primary research methods for music evaluation for the Radio
Division.
Mr. Peacock is co-inventor of an Arbitron patent covering several approaches to portable electronic
survey methods.
